Program Manager - Linux Initiatives
VMware is the industry leader in high-performance,
enterprise-quality x86
virtualization technology.
We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and
results-driven program
manager to drive a number of Linux initiatives.
This individual will:
Manage cross-functional initiatives, including support for
new Linux host and
guest operating systems, cross-product compatibility, and
problem resolution.
Coordinate projects, proactively identifying dependencies
and driving issues
to resolution.
Work with cross-functional teams, including Linux
distributions, and VMware
developers, engineering management, QA, product management,
and tech support,
to deliver new technology capabilities to VMware products.
Establish and manage lightweight processes to ensure on-time
delivery
high-quality and high-performance software.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in software development and project/program
management
fundamentals (Software Development Life Cycles and Quality
Processes, Scope,
Cost, Schedule, Deliverables, Change Management, Risk
Management)
Experience in co-coordinating joint, new, and sustaining
product and feature
development with major Linux distributions.
Solid understanding of Linux/Open Source development cycles,
including
community and Linux distribution-specific processes
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills Proven success leading
projects in a
fast-paced, growing organization
Experience with systems software. Operating systems and/or
x86 architecture
knowledge is a plus.
Strong software engineering background with a passion for
delivering
high-performance, enterprise-quality software.
Track record of leading development efforts on successful
product releases
Education: BS CS or equivalent
Location:
This position is available in Palo Alto, CA and we are open
to
telecommuting.(Relocation assistance will be provided if
needed.)
