Did I get your attention?

Alpha Core has been quiet lately, but it's not for lack of
activity
behind the scenes. We have something important to announce;
there will
not be an Alpha Core 4.

Don't start crying yet, though.

Instead of Alpha Core 4, we hope that in a few months you'll
join us in
celebrating the release of Fedora 8 for Alpha
<http://fe
doraproject.org/wiki/ArchTeam>. It's been a long time
coming,
and a lot of work has gone into the project, but it looks
like the Alpha
platform will be synchronised up with the mainstream
releases of Fedora
for the first time.

You can read more about what's going on with the Fedora
Secondary
Architectures proposal here:
http://fedoraproject.org/
wiki/FWN/Issue90#head-271f52b8e5603cd40d00d7c44ec8632cae42b1
aa

We'll post more updates as they come in.

We could really use package builders and testers, and if
you'd like to
get on board and help out in any way, please get in touch
with us,
because the more people involved, the better.

Yes, Mike

You got my attention. I hope you guys can pull it off.
Personally, I
don't think we'll miss anything by not having KDE 4.0 -
assuming it's
even more bloated than its 3.xx versions. Wouldn't mind
seeing CDE or
X-fce, though.

I have been using FC 6 on a fast 64-bit athlon PC. Somehow,
between 5.0
and 6.0 a lot of things just sort of fell into place - the
automounts
all work, every piece of hardware known to man is supported,
updates
(yum) are painless and it doesn't report back to the mother
ship on your
comings and goings. For the first time I can honestly tell
myself that
a new computer user would prefer Linux over Windows from a
cold start -
even if Windows cost 100 baht at Chatuchak flea market.

Good luck,

jn

xfce is in extras and should compile fine on Alpha. Since I
do use XFCE
on my workstation (no, that's no Alpha of course), I will
really try
hard to make it work fine
