User add problem

Hi Everyone

I have 1 problem at the time of user creation.I have installed RHEL4 on P-IV
Machine.

At root login when I tried to create any user then it give me the message:

Useradd: cannot rewrite password file.

But if i tried to login in others already users created by me i can enter
but cannot create new users.

Pls give me solutions asap as my work got stuck

I have checked passwd file available in /etc

Hi Narender,

Please check if you have correct perission set on /etc/passwd file.

check if you have write permission on this file.

You please check the file permission for /etc/passwd, i think accidentally permissions may be changed. You can add the entries manually to /etc/passwd, you may try it also.
