I'm getting evolved in a community radio in Quebec, Canada.
We just
bought WinRadio (radio automation) for a little $15 000
CAN. I'm
quite disappointed about this considering that we are
running a pretty
low budget. Furthermore, WinRadio doesn't offer much more
features
than Livesupport does. Basically, this program is built on
Direct Show
components and supports only a limited number of audio
formats for
example.

I think I failed to convince radio administrators on using
LiveSupport
for some of the few following reasons:

1. Apparently LiveSupport doesn't implement a way yet to
track the
number of time an ad for a customer passed on air.
2. Here in Quebec, there's a certain ratio of French music
that must
be played over English music. They needed to get french
ratios to be
calculated automatically...
3. I had to run LiveSupport from live-cd to give them a view
of the
program, but we ran into bugs and I think that gave them a
bad
impression.
4. Finally, I think that they got confused with the GUI for
live
operating since windows weren't placed all together.

This message aims to be as much constructive as possible. I
don't just
wanna cry here about features livesupport doesn't have
yet... I just
believe it could be useful to have potential users points of
view to
improve this project.

I'm a C programmer (that goes slowly to C++...) and would
be pleased
to give efforts on that project. I'm not a guru thought and
don't know
if I could get work done neatly. I was wondering if
LiveSupport
implements a plugin system that would simplify developing
process for
"regional" features (such as the "French
ratio" thing...).

Oh, last thing I thought about: it would be nice to provide
a fully
functional, customized with general tools and stable release
of a
LiveSupport distro on CD. Not that the actual live-cd isn't
good
enough but I was more thinking about providing a
ready-to-use and
maintained version of it (rather than only a
"demo" live-cd).

Thank you for your great work. I believe in seeing
LiveSupport to
become a serious option besides actual closed software.

I always wonder why people buy such things, before having a
demo of
them...

Hi Pierre -
Thanks so much for your feedback, we would love to have your station using LiveSupport. We are well aware that the LiveCD had some problems - it also had an older version of LS on it which was never used in production. We are finishing up the 1.1 release - which /will/ be used on real live radio stations, and we would love to have your help testing it. More responses below...

We dont have this yet, but this is something that all radio stations would need and so we will definitely be implementing this in the future. This is something you could help us with. ; By the way, the program is written in both C++ and PHP, so if you know PHP you could also help.

I live in Toronto, so I'm aware of this kind of requirement. Does WinRadio do this? ; We could certainly put it in, but this would probably require a bit of money...or help...(as Micz said below, if we got $15K from someone, that enough to fund a good chunk of development with us!) But we know money is probably not an option for you since you already purchased WinRadio.

This one I dont quite understand...could you explain it a bit more?

No plugin system, we dont have any plans to do so yet as the system is quite complex.

We wont be making another LiveCD, but you will be able to "apt-get" everything if you run a Debian/Ubuntu based system.

Thank you, this is much appreciated.

To get a good overview on wanna haves, take a look to the
