| Live Assist mode and the radio package |

Hi,
This is a question mainly for Robert, but others can chime
in if they like.
In today's developer discussion, one of the things that came
up was the
implementation of the LiveAssist vs. Automatic modes as
described in this
ticket:
http://code.campware.org/projects/campcaster/tickets/18
99
In it, the modes are defined as follows:
<snip>
1. Automatic - all tracks are played sequentially, one
after another
until the whole Live Mode list is exhausted, unless the
operator presses
pause or stop.
2. Live Assist Mode - tracks play only if the operator
presses play and
the playback stops after the track ends.
Transferrings from live into automatic mode (and vice
versa), have to work
without interrupting the current playback broadcast (that
means, without
any audio error, glitch, click, additional login etc..).
</snip>
The question is this: It looks like the individual play,
cue, etc. buttons
for each item in live assist mode are going to be much more
difficult to
implement than we thought.
So we have a choice: is it OK to implement live assist mode
with the single
play button on top, as we currently have it in live mode? If
so, that's
doable as part of the radio package. If not, the feature
will have to get
pushed back to a future release.
With the single play button on top, a user would highlight
an item in live
mode, then press play on the top of the palette (as it is
now). The
difference between this and automatic mode is that the items
below it
wouldn't play automatically; it'd wait for each item to be
highlighted and
the 'play' button pushed.
The big 'play' and 'cue' buttons as in the Parsons sketches
will have to
come in a later release.
What do you think?

By my opinion, the answer is no I think that the user using one play button in Live
assistant mode simply can't have function of playing files individually, without some
extra work and extra gymnastic. And don't forget, that we are in a mode when the user
is a single operator (DJ) and does the LIVE program- which is great number of working
hours in a radio station.

I find this confusing from one reason- when will we know if this button is used for audio
file that is currently in program (with functions
play/pause/stop/rewind), and when it is used for audio that we highlight from our prepared playlist?
Beside that, the additional highlighting the next playing song and paying attention
that something wrong doesn't happen in program- creates another extra work in "assistant mode",
that is supposed to help users, and not to occupy them with extra problems.
Is it possible to have that user can activate the "play" function from the playlist by mouse clicking?
Would that be more easier to implement? Or it`s same problem ?
And another questions for the developers:
What is the estimated time ( how much days, months etc..)
for adding this "play" and "cue" function for every slot- so that we can have
full "assistant mode" and "cue" idea implemented in the Campcaster project?
What instance of time are we talking about ?

There are buttons in the Master Panel -- these are for the
currently
playing song, and there are buttons in the Live Mode window
-- these are
for the selected song in the Live Mode window (or the top
song, if
nothing is selected).

Yes, double-clicking has already been implemented, a long
time ago (try
it!) Also, you can select songs in the Live Mode window
with the
up/down cursor keys on the keyboard, and press Enter, Space
(these two
are always equivalent to double-clicking everywhere in
Campcaster, and
in almost all Gnome applications), or the "x" key.
This last key can be
customized in the Keyboard Shortcuts sub-window of the
Options window.

For the nice graphical solution -- hard to tell, but I don't
think it's
realistic to do this year. I might easily spend a week
trying to
implement it, and not get anywhere. We can't afford this
now, timewise.
