Hi,

Because we seem to be getting a few similar requests related to using LiveSupport and streaming, I've been thinking about ways the JACK project could be used to route the sound output out of LiveSupport's Gstreamer into the streaming server's input; theoretically, this wouldn't even need a sound card, which would be excellent for hosted servers.

Anyway, the question goes out to those of you on the dev list: does anybody have any experience with JACK? Anyone interested in pursuing this?

My experience with Jack (and Ardour) that it is quite a
heavy process on a
system, and if it starts screaming about its xruns hell
breaks loose.
Isn't there a much simpeler way via Gstreamer?

(Ok I admit, with Gstreamer you should also record your
line-in, if you
have a live performance and want to stream, but don't
forget 'normal'
radio stations have audioprocessors, so a dedicated stream
PC isn't that
bad)

and, with this solution you actually need a sound card - not
available
in some servers.

but the goal really is to be able to do streaming. this can
be achieved
with gstreamer inside LS as well... (hint, wink, Stefan?

Are you sure about that? Isn't there a way to make a
virtual soundcard
in ALSA?

Stefan?

Seriously what is wrong with ffmpeg ;) But yes, thats why I
used the
shout2send plugin for. But Akos, if you do it in LS, you
agree you need
to have a microphone for 'live' events? For prerecorded
stuff this
shouldn't be a problem (you could even try to do a lossless
audio render).
