Re: On the shortlist!

Out of 99 projects, LogiLogi Manta was selected as one of
the 20 on
the Digitale Pioniers shortlist..!

They've asked us again to make a promo-movie of 90
seconds...

So we're in the race!

I don't know if any of you thinks we should change the
movie:

but if we need to (and maybe it could be improved) it might
become
hectical, as I've a presentation on tuesday (which I would
prepare
today and on monday), and the final exam for my
driving-lessions
tomorrow (and a 2-hour lession an hour from now...).

This weekend I can film a short bit at the jouth-weekend of
Mensa,
maybe to replace half of the fast-forward
fosdem-presentation with
a shot of them as prospected users... (because the juries
only
critique was about how we intend to reach the audience).

But I won't be able to change too much more than that before
monday,
when we have to send it in (also I don't have access to the
computer
on which we made the film last time currently, so I'll have
to see how
well a slower one does)...

So good news we're in the shortlist, but the timing of
having to
prepare the movie before monday, is not as good...

Great to hear this! I hope we get through this time!

About the video, I couldn't understand what's said, but I
could
appreciate the different aspects shown, like somebody else
introducing
himself, the fosthem presentation, showing the UI etc, and
it looks
like a good quick overlook of the project.

Hope you get the time to do all your stuff and LL... Please

No automatic translation-service exists for videos yet sadly

Ok. The Digitale Pioniers people called me yesterday to tell
me over
the phone that LL Manta was selected for the shortlist. I
then asked
about the video, and they said the current video was already
rather
good, so I'll see how I can improve it with small tweaks...

It's sad it has to be so short...

Ok. If you have a very short (few secs) video maybe where
you
introduce yourself as the second developer, and the son of
a
professor, it might be useful... (it will be difficult to
squeeze it
in, but I might be able to do it on monday...

Hi all,

Yesterday I did the video but couldn't get to upload it,
because some
misconfiguration with my server, but now I could. Here is
the file:

Well, sorry it's a wmv file, I hope there is no problem to
import it.
My avi codec kept skeeping.

I knew it was a good idea to bring the LL shirt to Bs. As.,
I finally
got to wear it... although the logo is not fully seen... The
image of
the recording is not very good, this was the only place I
got to
record it.

Also my dad wanted to record himself his support but there
was not
enough time. I hope he gets the time to record something
tomorrow
(sunday).

Please also use my video only if you see fits, if not it's
all right.

He didn't make it this time, but I think it's somehow very
interesting
to have videos showing support for LL, I think it's really
cool and we
could try to gather as much of this as we can...  and not
just for
the digital pioneers, I hope this is the last time... 

Offtopic: I just got my laptop a fresh debian installation,
and I'm
very happy with it... I'm also loading windows through a
VMWare to
make a smooth transition and keep working, but mostly moved
back to
linux, finally. Since I bought my laptop I got stuck in a
windows
vista, but it got to a point where I couldn't stand it any
more, so,
I'm very happy now.

Looking forward for the new movie... good luck with the
edition.

Had quite some irritating hardware-problems at first, and
then others,
& was unable to do all I wanted, but more about that
tomorrow... I'm
going to get some sleep now, because I've a presentation to
give
today at 9:00... ;)

This morning I submitted the movie. It was quite a struggle
to get
everything to work. Especially importing the video I made at
the
youth- weeked didn't work for quite some time (there was a
problem
with first the firewire being there but only a
non-connected
front-plug, then I bought a firewire card, and then it
didn't work
with the camera...). And then it was already nine in the
evening...
Then I went to a neighbour to try it at his pc, and then it
worked 

Then came the editing and the PC of my brothers appeared
slower than
I'd expected. So I was only able to do a simple thing like
adding that
bit at the end, as it didn't require cutting up the video
entirely...

Then Adobe Premiere crashed a few times, and after fixing
the
sound-mis-alignment I finally got a video out  But it was
330 mb
big, and while also working preparing my presentation of
this morning
at nine... Then I spent the rest of the night getting the
compression
right..., Which failed untill 4:00 in the morning, so I
decided to
upload the whole thing uncompressed.

Then in the morning, just before leaving for
the presentation, I decided to give it another try (using
yet different
software), and then it worked..!

So I uploaded the compressed version just in time...

This morning the presentation went well, apart from a
city-wide power-
outage occuring just when I was showing the outline on the
beamer, and
an alarm that went off 

(I checked that the file was uploaded correctly before the
power
outage, and it was...)

So against all odds we go for manta! 

Sadly enough I was unable to include your video Bruno, but
your idea
of adding clips of people supporting LL Manta is great!

Also the movie is the same as it was, except for the added
bit with
the mensans cheering: "Choose LogiLogi".
Nevertheless, as Mensa-
membership is not public (it's not a secret society, but for
privacy,
reasons it's not public either), I promised them not to
distribute the
video to others than the expert-panel...

PS: Andrew could you send the attachments, and especially
the color-
mockup ? Maybe to my e-mail, or better to the trunk
somewhere under
public/ ? I'm really looking forward to them and I have time
to do
more coding again now!

Great you got through all the obtacles, video editing is a
pain...

Although I didn't see the mensans cheering "Choose
LogiLogi", I can
imagine it, and also see the symbolic part of it, being this
a great
recognition.

All this proces trigered the idea of videos saying
"choose LL", or "I
support LL", mashedup in a map... that would be nice.
There would be lot's of ways to promote LL, but we are not
in that
stage yet, right? we would rether get manta working before
calling
attention.

Now back to the work, I will not have much time before going
back to
Montevideo to spend christmas and new year with family and
friends,
and after that I'll stay over there for 10-15 days, and then
come back
to Bs.As. to start working again. I'm not going to have much
time
before the end of the year, but I'd like to get some work
done if
possible, so I'd like to know where to work at. I'd like to
be more in
touch with Andrew and work in parallel if possible.
