| Cross-browser layout |

Hi all,
I've been working over the layout to make it compatible, and
I've gone
through the same thing that always happens with this, it's a
pain...
Let me point out the different current bugs:
* tags: streched in IE
* columns layout: not centered anymore
* popovers shadows: not working IE6 and older
* main menue: a bit separated of the bottom
** Tags **
The problem is produced by the nested divs that simulate the
rounded
corner. The only way I found this time and before when
working with
this was to se a fixed width, which is not an option in this
case as
tags should be the size of it contents.
Posible solutions:
* try to set the tag width after loading the contents with
javascript.
I'm not sure this would work but it could.
* use image corners for tags and niftycube for the rest of
the rounded
corners (I like this approach)
* user mozilla rounded corners for compatible browsers and
let the
rest see square tags. (I believe that if we use mozilla
rounded
corners for all corners, then we will end up with two
designs, one
rounded and one squared depending on browser, and I
personally like
this approach and is just a snap to implement
** Column layout **
Since some time ago this layout is not working anymore, I
remember
when it stop working and we could never find out what broke
it... too
bad. Anyway, this is easily fixed if we use the IE8.js,
which I
previouslly mentioned. I tested it and it would fix the
column layout
and the dropdown menues problem in IE7, still have to test
it over
IE6.
** Popover shadows **
We had arrived to a solution before, that was to use a 8-bit
png for
IE6 and before and 32-bit png for modern browsers. I still
have to
implement this, which is easy to do. Also there is a way to
manipulate
the png transparency with Fireworks (a software from
Macromedia-Adobe
now), which should make it look nicer than my current
approach of the
8-bit shadow, but I'll work on it later, for now I'll just
do the
browser filter.
** Main menue **
Still didn't work over this but should do with some small IE
only Hack.
I'm very sorry that I haven't spent the time I promised I
would over
my task, I hope to compensate this over the days left.
Also, I'd like to rewrite from scratch the design with all
this fixes
in mind, as all this solutions are temporary as they are
just hacks to
get manta working ASAP.
I'm off to bed now, will be working over this tomorrow night
again, so
I hope to exchange ideas with you'all during day.
Wybo, I hope you had a nice birth day.
Later.
ps: my laptop is broken and out of waranty (by 5 days!!!),
so I have
no wifi or ethernet connection, just dialup, and just over
windoze :(

Indeed. Fully agree. For now, the quick fix seems best, then
we can
some time later always give the IEers rounded corners with
images...

I hope it is not too big... As we already have a whole lot
of JS in
Manta, some reported 500k... (just opened a low-priority
Task of
compressing it and the like, that could bring it down to
120k or so,
still a lot, but not disastrous...)

Cool, ok.

Happens, and all cool if you do...

Ok. I also received the attachment, and there are quite some
good
ideas and comments in there, so if you could add it to our
sourceforge
wiki, and post a link to it to the list, that would be
really cool and
then we can discuss the comments you made on it here
together...

Cool (still I will only be on IRC till 13:30 GMT, so I hope
we won't
just miss eachother...).

Was fabulous, ty

That sucks... Jordy (manager/facillitator student of the
Nijmegen team)
also had a broken laptop tuesday/last week...
Hope you get by ,

Ok, you are right. I will give it a try to just apply the
hacks to the
necesary styles. Not only for the weight of the file (37kb)
but also
for the performance, since this is another JS searching for
classess
and ids...
