It should be possible (and normal for 1.6.x) that a
"patchless" client run
on a patched server. For clients the biggest part of
patched vs patchless
is whether the vfs_intent patch is present or not.
To be honest, I'd rather have the "patchless"
support be determined by
whether vfs_intent or vfs_nointent is patched into the
kernel instead
of "lustre_version.h" (which I think we should
keep for the patched
servers).
