POP QUIZ ANSWER:
D. Vista's UAC does not apply when logged on with the
built-in
administrator account.
The built-in administrator account in Vista is disabled by
default,
but if you enable it, assign a password, and log on, UAC
(User Account
Control) does not prompt for consent when installing
applications,
running executables, or performing other administrative
tasks. This
is by design. However, for backup purposes, the account
could be
enabled, assigned a strong password, and have the account
name changed.
When logged on with a standard user account and the UAC
policy for
standard users is configured for "Prompt for
credentials", the user
will have the opportunity to enter administrator account
credentials.
The default UAC policy and behavior for a new administrator
account
is "Prompt for Consent". This provides for
security against malware.
The power users group has been deprecated in Vista and is
not
recommended for assigning permissions.
Tip: Know the state and password for the Vista built-in
administrator
account. By default the account has a blank password.
Tech Reference: "Enable and Disable the Built-in
Administrator Account"

Okay, now for the Redmond T-Shirt Question: Where in Vista
can you
disable UAC for the machine regardless of the logged on
account?
Send answers to mdomingo 1105media.com with
"T-Shirt Answer" on the
subject line by Feb. 13 and we'll choose one random right
answer for
a Redmond T-Shirt!
Congratulations to Carol Y. for submitting the correct
answer:
Active Directory Users and Computers, Domain Controllers
container,
Properties of the RODC, Password Replication Policy tab.
(Question: Using which administrative tool and where do you
configure
a RODC password replication policy?)
