Hey Darryl

I had this same problem and found a nifty workaround that
creates a toolbar
within each worksheet even with >1 file (based on that
worksheet) open. It
uses VBA code to build a toolbar from data stored in a
hidden worksheet
within the workbook. It's slick and way easier than having
all the VBA
code. I can't find a reference in my email database telling
me where I
found it but I know it was one of the really good Excel
resource sites like
Ozgrid - I'll have to google and see if I can find it.

In the meantime, I can send you a blank copy of the
worksheet off-list if
you want - let me know. I think you could look at it and
figure it out.

Colin,

I am going to post this one on the Excel - L list as well
for you.

Hi,

I'm a newbie to this list but have a fair amount of
experience with Excel
and VBA.

I have a fairly urgent problem that I'm hoping someone can
help me with.
All
of the suggestions I've found don't actually answer my
specific question
and
looking at the Excel online Help, I get the impression it
can't be done
but... my experience on the MS Word ListServ makes me
believe that if
there's a way, someone will know it.

Summary: I can't find a way to load into the Application a
custom toolbar
stored in the ActiveWorkbook when the workbook is already
open.

I have defined a custom toolbar in a workbook that is served
(as an XLS) on
an intranet.

Users download and save the workbook to their local machine.
They might do
this several times because the workbook might be used for
multiple
projects.
When the workbook is the only one of its kind that is open,
the custom
toolbar works fine. I have implemented the technique
presented in the
OzGrid
Web site (
http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/toolbar-remove-restore.htm) to
show,
hide and delete the toolbar according to the specific
events.

With several workbooks opened but only one of this type,
everything works
great. However, when several workbooks based on the same
source workbook
are
opened, it seems that only the first toolbar is loaded into
the
Application.
This remains true even after I close the first opened
workbook with the
result that although the toolbar is still visible, clicking
a button on it
reopens the original file. If I use the code to delete the
custom toolbar,
the remaining workbook causes an error. I can't find a way
to load into the
Application the custom toolbar stored in the ActiveWorkbook
when the
workbook is already open.
(I hope this is clear.)

Due to the customer's setup, I can't develop an XLT type
environment or
implement an Addin. (What I'm really saying is that at this
stage in the
job, it would be embarassing to propose this without having
thoroughly
researched the possibilities.) :^(

What I'm looking for is a solution that will change the
reference to the
toolbar so that it points to the ActiveWorkbook and not to
the first
workbook that loads it.

Phew! I hope someone can help me.

Cheers
Colin
