Thread: Importing and Exporting to CSV file and maintaining data types

Importing and Exporting to CSV file and maintaining data types

We have an Excel file that contains Loan Numbers and loan
data. The
Loan Numbers often have leading zeros. The data type of the
loan number
in Excel is a text string.

We are finding when we export to a .csv and also reimport
from a .csv,
that the Loan Numbers become numeric values and lose the
leading zeroes.

Any thoughts on work-arounds to maintain the text data
type?

Thanks

Jeff,

I have created a user form and accompanying macro that
prompts the user
to identify the location of the CSV files. The macro then
populates the
form with checkboxes for each CSV file found in that
location. Once the
user marks which files to open, each is opened with the
columns
identified as text (thus preserving the leading zeroes). If
you are
interested, I will send you the file off list.
