I got MOL running and love it!! I now have Fink on OS X and
can run and
access my Linux partition and now with MOL I can do the
opposite. I am
almost exclusively running Linux except for Skype.
It seems that the EN(2) connection used to network the Linux
(Ubuntu)
connection causes some issues? When trying to add services
in Mac system
preferences in MOL I get a warning that my Internet provider
will
disconnect me if I enable the EN(2) port.
I cannot call with Skype in MOL-I get a connection failure.
Any help?
Thanks

I don't think that MOL provides any sound input yet.

Brian,
Did you have to forward packets for MOL to have
connectivity? I have
been considering running it on my Dual G4, and would like to
move away
from dual boot if I can...

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunate though.

Hi
I thought I'd throw my tuppence-worth in
There is another voip system which runs natively on linux
and windows
(and possibly mac - I'm not 100% sure). and it's a totally
open protocol
(unlike skype, which is a closed system - which means the
public don't
have any access to the workings of it, and therefore are
plenty of
open-source products available to make use of it).
The system is called SIP, and is being supported by an
already
successful company called Draytel (http://www.draytel.org)
it's worth a
look at, there are a selection of clients to chose from.
I've tried it and have never gone back - I even use it as
my new
permanent phone number from now on

I did not. I followed the MOL install instructions (my
Ubuntu won't boot so
I'm running a live cd, otherwise I'd give you the link)
regarding configuring
the network. It runs perfectly though you can't have an
internet connection in
bot MOL and Linux at the same time. Otherwise I have
complete access to Mac
apps and files.

no, cannot call a skype user with it because skype use their
own
"closed" protocol, rather than the SIP
'standard'
but you can call anyone who uses the SIP-based systems free
of charge -
regardless of what provider they are using
I hope that answers your question
I've managed to introduce it to most of my firneds -
creating a nice
little SIP circle, with free calls to each other at any time
they also have their own exuivalent of 'skype-out' with
your own free
phone number which some of the rates are even cheaper than
skype
