I don't know about the 6236i, but I can describe what the
process looks
like on my Nokia 3589i. When you first plug in the cable,
the phone should
light up and say something like "Data connection
ready". Then when you
dial, the phone should light up, briefly (sometimes it
doesn't appear at
all) say "Calling... #777", then arrows appear
in both directions on the
display, and flash indicating data transfer. The rest of the
phone's UI
appears like a regular call - the timer, signal and battery
graphs, etc.

Greetings Quentin:
I also have the 3589i. I'm wondering if you have any
new/additonal sources of info regarding use of the
correct modem scripts and drivers for the 3589i. I
have used both John Chang's and Bob Sentman's but they
are now dated.
Thanks
Chuck

I don't really know. I bought QuickLink Mobile, and it
worked out of the
box. In the past couple months, it has stopped working for
NationalAccess
(1xRTT), but it still works for Quick2Net. I'm going to
pester Verizon
when I have the time and patience to deal with their
customer service. By
the way, if anyone is curious, after much time spent on the
phone and at
the store, I've discovered that NationalAccess MOU has been
renamed to
NationalAccess SVC Access, with a feature code of 1xPPI (or
1xPP1, I
heard both).
