This is cobbled together from blogs and HowardForums.com.
Using the TmobileWeb (old tzones 5.99/month), I've finally
been able to get both email
and web browsing working on my Powerbook using this nice
Smartphone as a bluetooth
modem.
Here's the quick and dirty (from ht
tp://justinblanton.com/2006/01/mac-os-x-windows-
mobile-bluetooth-modem):
. 1 Make sure that when you're setting up your mobile
phone's Bluetooth capabilities
within Mac OS X you
check "Access the Internet with your phone's data
connection." If your phone is already
paired and you initially forgot to select this option you
can find it at System Preferences |
Bluetooth | Devices [choose your device] | Configure.
. 2 Download Ross Barkman's IPAQ PDAs modem script from http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
files/iPAQ-GSM-2005-04.sit.
. 3 Unpack the archive and use a text editor open the script
and change the 57600 to
460800 (in the modem setup section as described in http://www.howardforums.
com/
showthread.php?t=872242&highlight=tether+osx) place the
IPAQ GSM script into /
Library/Modem Scripts/
. 4 Go to System Preferences | Network | Show: [Bluetooth]
. 5 Click on PPP Options and make sure that "Use TCP
header compression" is unchecked.
Click OK.
. 6 Click on Bluetooth Modem and choose the IPAQ GSM script
from the drop-down list.
. 7 Disable both "Enable error correction and
compression in modem" and "Wait for dial
tone before dialing."
. 8 Click on PPP. T-Mobile users aren't required to put in
a specific username or password,
but apparently it breaks if you don't put something in both
fields (I just used '1' (without
quotes) for both username and password. If you're a
Cingular subscriber you'll want to
use the following information:
Account Name: WAP CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
. 9 Enter *99# as the phone number.
. 10 On your Mac, in System Preferences -> Network ->
Bluetooth -> Configure ->
Proxies, just set it to use proxies for HTTP and HTTPS
(individually by checking the
checkboxes), and the IP is 216.155.165.50, port 8080
. 11 Click Dial Now (or select from the menubar if you've
checked 'Show modem in
menubar from the bluetooth modem preferences) and then click
Connect.
