WAIT!
I can't quite respond to all of your concerns, but I'm
another
Vermonter and we just got Verizon EVDO service buddy!
Sometime in
the first week of September, Verizon finished updating us
with their
high speed network. I don't know where you live, but I live
in
Burlington and have driven as far south as Montpelier and
it's all
good, around 800k! Try updating your phone: *228 option 2.
In
addition, I've got a 1.67 Powerbook and an older Verizon
edition Moto
V3c, and I connect a-okay through either Bluetooth and USB.
However,
I did "modify" my phone with a wintel, so good
luck with that work
around. Regardless, Verizon isn't sensitive to the
individual, so
don't let them take advantage of your business.
Take care,
Geoffrey.

problems
at all. My calls only
chew up minutes on my America's Choice plan.

A few weeks ago Verizon called and asked me to renew and
offered a
new phone as an
incentive. I chose a Motorola Razr v3m and when it arrived I
tried
using it with my Mac as a
modem but to no avail. I have tried everything! I am noy
interested
in high speed access or
downloading ringtones, wallpaper or movies. I don't need
EVDO and in
fact, EVDO isn't
available at all in Vermont where I use the phone 90% of the
time.
Verizon tells me that if I
want to use the phone even for low speed I need to pay
$59.00 a
month! even though I
couldn't get high speed even if I wanted it! I returned the
v3m and
am back with my trusty
if worn out VX4400.

My questions are:

Can I use the Razr v3m on Verizon (via the USB cable or via
Bluetooth
(my MacBookPro has
Bluetooth)) without voiding the warranty?

Is there another Verizon phone that will do the job or
should I stick
with my worn out
VX4400?

Should I go to Unicel and get a GSM phone that I can swap
the sim
chip back and forth
with my Rogers GSM phone ib Canada? and try and use that as
a modem?

Other suggestions?

Your thoufghts would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I'm in Vermont too. I connect for free through Verizon
when I'm in Burlington. I use a USB connection and my
motorola v60. Connection speeds are fine and all I get
charged are my minutes which is free on nights and weekends.
It's also very easy to configure; can help you set it up.
I'm guessing you just need to install a driver for the Razr
but I'm no expert.

Have you had any success connecting through UNICEL? How
do you connect? I'm trying a UNICEL phone and I actually
have service at my house in a rural area. If I could figure
out how to connect to the net I can get rid of my Verizon
account.

Thanks Geof,

I did return the v3m as I only had 14 days to try it
out, besides, I'm up in Swanton which will probably
get EVDO about the time we get time travel. I was wary
of doing a mod on the v3m in case I had to return it
but if I was assured that once it was modified it
would would work I might get one again.

Thanks

jim

Jim - Swanton? I'd at least do a *228 option 2 to update
your phone
and see EVDO it works up there. Have a good one - Geoffrey
