Yesterday I went down to my local Verizon Store and selected the RAZR V3M to replace my
Moto T-720. My old phone still works well but I want a more up to date phone with the
capability to use it occasionally as a modem for my I-Book as I have been doing sucessfully
for years w/o a data plan ... just use my voice plan minutes.
The salesman told me that if I did not buy a data plan, there was some default switch in the
phone that would not allow me to get on-line via the Express Network. He went on to further
say that Verizon has done this on all there new phones to stop us from using this backdoor. I
left without purchasing the phone but started thinking that the only way that they could do
this was to change some code (MOU?) in my plan. My theory is that once I picked up the
Office Kit, he immediately jumped and asked how I was going to use it. I told the truth but if I
had stated that I just wanted to use it to sync my phone to my I-Book, he would not have said
or done anything.
Has anyone run into this situation lately?
