I just got mine working (10 minutes ago), a Verizon v3m here in
central CA. I disabled EVDO ( http://www.hacktherazr.com/guide.disable.evdo.html ) then edit the
/etc/ppp/options file to contain
refuse-chap
refuse-mschap refuse-mschap-v2
And then setup a connection to use the Verizon p5220 driver and it
connected fine.
I new it was possible because I was able to get it working on Windows pretty quickly. On mac editing the /etc/ppp/options file was what it
took to work correctly. While traveling throughout the country with my
older Windows laptop I have been able to connect at every airport so
access via this 'backdoor' must still be pretty wide spread.
