I have the u720 modem and it works great with an Intel based mac. The
last WWAN update provides Apple supported drivers and a neat icon
showing signal strength and connection type (1XRTT(crappy) or EVDO).
I had to register the modem with the windows software before I tried
using it on the Mac. I believe you need drivers that are floating
around the net for a G4 or lower powerbook.

The Novatel USB EVDO Sprint external device, not a card, so no need
for a slot. It's not faster than Verizon, since Sprint and Verizon
are now both EVDO Rev. A.

The Verizon version should not need a PC to activate (and cost more
per month), the Sprint model may require a PC to activate. The
software is Mac compatable. Apple offers support in MacOS X 10.4. For
much more detailed information and even the ability to purchase
hardware already set up for your mac, you should check out
www.evdoinfo.com. I have no experience with them.
