You might try checking which modem script is set in the preferences.
New Apple software resets the modem script to a generic one.

Thanks Jedi - that was the right idea. I had to pick
"Generic" modem instead of Sony Ericsson, even though
my phone is a SE. But for SE it only gives the choice
of data lines.
