Hi everyone,
Since this Yahoo! Group is called MacCellPhone, I thought that I would
post this information.
I read a recent blog by someone who talked about a woman who had
her purse stolen. The thief had access to her cell phone as well as her
credit and debit cards. By the time the woman had called her husband
from a pay phone, the husband had told her that he received a text
message asking for their PIN number. The bank reported that the thief
had already withdrawn every cent from their bank account.
Now this blog might be total BS, but what it was saying was that you
should never put "Home", "Hubby", "Sweetheart", "Dad", or other such
information in your phone's address book that a thief could glean
personal information from. Also, anybody who receives a text message
asking for personal information (even from people who they know)
should always use another method of giving that information back, say
simply calling them back to confirm.
Also, I've been told that, if there were an accident, that the police or
firefighter will get into your cell phone to contact next of kin. If you use
the initials, ICE (which stands for In Case of Emergency) in front of an
important contact name in your cell phone's listing, the Emergency
Medical Technician will know who to contact first. This really helps so
that the EMT isn't calling everyone on the phone list and can reach the
correct contact person quickly.
Best of luck.
