OFFTOPIC: where to look for suppliers...

 Hi all,

I am trying to put together a proposal to the university I
work for to buy
some didatic industrial automation production systems.

I know of festo and their modular production systems for
teaching automation
(www.festo-didactic.com), but I would prefer something more
along the lines
of some conveyors and actuators somewhat similar to robot
arms.

Does anybody know of any suppliers for these didatic
systems, or where I
should look to find them?

Thnaks for any help you may provide,

		Cheers,

				Mario.

There are several manufacturers that make didactic
automation system.
At our college we use SMC products, this is a European
pneumatics
manufacturer that has several systems available.
There is also a US company called Amatrol that has very nice
setups.

My question in return however is that it is not likely any
of these
systems will have a Linux-PLC control. Can you tell me what
you intend
to use to control it?

Thanks, have a nice day

We use mostly Schneider (7 Premiums) and Omron (4 CJ1 and 2
CS1) PLCs, and
Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus (RTU, ASCII, TCP) and RTPS
networks (almost 20
slaves overall). We also have a couple LCD touch panels, one
hmi web card,
several speed controllers, etc... I believe we are currently
quite well
equiped in industrial grade equipment.

What we are currently looking for now is for mechanical
devices that the
students may control. At the moment we are more inclined
towards the small
models at
http://www.staudinger-est.de/intl/en/simulation02.
aspx?group=1
as we would like to have at least 6 groups working
simultaneously in the lab,
and 6 of the the festo/amatrol type systems would be a tight
fit in the 67 m2
lab along with the existing workbenches, and would probably
come out too
expensive.

  Cheers,

I often use these products
http://www.iai-robot.co.jp/grobal_2005/index.html
Especially, RCP2 seriese are cost saving, they are controlled through modbus(RTU, ASCII).
