Hello the list,

I'm hoping to use Magpie as part of an in-house RSS aggregator, and although it looks like the very fellow for me, I've come up against an odd problem.

Attempts to access external RSS feeds (such as http://www.guardian.co.uk/rss, or http://education.independent.co.uk/index.jsp?service=rss) result in the following error being returned by Magpie:

Warning: MagpieRSS: Failed to fetch http://education.independent.co.uk/index.jsp?service=rss (HTTP Error: connection failed (1006) in C:devnewshoundwebmagpierss-0.72rss_fetch.inc on line 238
Error: MagpieRSS: Failed to fetch http://education.independent.co.uk/index.jsp?service=rss (HTTP Error: connection failed (1006)

However, attempts to access our own feeds - either off my local machine or our own externally-available website - process normally and the feed items are listed, the var_dump outputs lots of info, and all is well with the world.

I am absolutely certain that this is not a problem with Magpie, and is either to do with our PHP setup here (5.2.3, by the way) or the way IIS5.5 works on my PC.  However, if anyone else has come up against a 1006 error (I can't even find it listed anywhere) and how I get around it, then please do let me know.

Cheers,

Gareth

Aha - we're behind a proxy here.

For reference, the fix was to configure Snoopy to use the proxy by setting:

 var $proxy_host  = "myproxy.myhost.ac.uk"; // proxy host to use
 var $proxy_port  = "80";    // proxy port to use

in Snoopy.class.inc.

Cheers,

Gareth
