RedHat 9.0
MySql 4.1.10a
innodb tables
Maia 1.0.1

Pentium III 750
1GB ram
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
  Vendor: HITACHI Model: DK32DJ-36MW Rev: A6A6
  Type:   Direct-Access                    ANSI SCSI
revision: 03

When process-quarantine runs, I notice that mysql pegs the
cpu at 99%.
What can I look for or adjust to help this? I run the job
every 3 hours
as recommended. The server load is only around 300 - 500
messages a day
altho I'm sure it is fending off more than that!!

Since you're using MySQL 4.1, one thing you can try is
using the
MySQL-specific engine for SpamAssassin. In your local.cf
file, change
the bayes_store_module accordingly:

bayes_store_module   Mail::SpamAssassin::BayesStore::MySQL

As others here have commented, however, you may also have an
I/O-based
bottleneck at your SCSI/RAID controller, which may have
write-caching
disabled by default. If you follow the
"Slowness" thread that begins at
<http://www.renaissoft.com/pipermail/maia
-users/2006-June/006655.html>
you'll find some things to check that would help you
determine whether
this might be part of the problem you're experiencing
(particularly
"iostat -x 1").
