Just a quickie --

I have oversized items set to 'accept' in the system
config. Please
tell me they still get scanned for viruses, right? Please?

I think it only applies to spam filtering.... Robert?

Nope. If it's oversized, it doesn't get scanned in any
way
whatsoever--just accepted or rejected. Doing any sort of
scanning on
such items would imply the need to cache/quarantine items
that don't
pass the scans, and that implies the need to store these
items in the
database--the very thing that Maia's size limit is there to
prevent.
Basically, you use Maia's size limit to protect your
database from
storing items too large for its BLOB columns to store, so
typically this
figure is measured in the tens of megabytes.

That said, there are several different "size
limits" you can apply in
different places, and for different strategic purposes--see
<https://secure.renaissoft.com/maia/wiki/SizeLimit>
for more details.

Wow. Good thing I asked.

We don't quarantine viruses; we delete them. Who trusts
users to
'release' a virus infected file? So, I raised the config
limit to the
same size as our message_size_limit on our mail relays and
set it to
reject oversize items.
