Stephen Carter has perhaps the most detailed step-by-step
guides of this
sort, though they're based on SuSE and not Fedora Core.
You might still
get good use out of them, though. See his
"HOWTO" guides at
<http://www.retnet.co.uk
/>.

In general, it's hard to construct a single, comprehensive
guide to
setting up a mail system and all of its components. That's
because
everybody's needs are different, and so necessarily any
such guide has
to make limiting assumptions about the types of needs the
reader will
have. Entire books have been written to explain how to
install and
configure the MTA portion alone (e.g. Postfix, Sendmail,
Exchange
Server, etc.), the database (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL), and
the web server
(e.g. Apache, IIS, etc.).

The documentation that's Maia-specific can be found on the
Maia website,
at <http://www
.maiamailguard.com/docs.php>. It's step-by-step as
well,
but it assumes that you've already figured out how to get
things like
your MTA, database, and web server installed and configured
for your
site's needs.

Hi,

I once upon a time spent a weekend starting to document
the process
of installing Maia from scratch on Ubuntu (Debian) Linux...
My notes,
while not complete, can be found at: http://www.dpsims
.com/~dpsims/maia/
You will also find some scripts to automate the installation
of all the
prerequisite bits on a Unbuntu minimal (server)
installation.... If you
want to try that out, I would be happy to help and to
correct any errors
in the incomplete documentation...

Also, if there is interest in this type of basic setup I
would be happy
to complete the documentation of the process if anyone wants
me to....

On that note, I've also written some "how-to"
type documentation for
Maia-Mailguard. However, it's not for Linux, it's for
FreeBSD. I've found
hundreds of
Postfix+Virtual-Users/Domains+Amavisd/Maia+Etc... how-to's
on the
internet, but nothing for FreeBSD.

I understand that there are plenty of FreeBSD people that
think this is some
sort of "easy way out" due to not learning the
software itself. However, I
believe that getting something you know nothing about to
work, then playing
with it later will teach you far more in the long run. So,
whatever. Either
way, I'll post the link to my
FreeBSD+Postfix+Maia-Mailguard+*Everything-Under-The-Sun*...
. here in case
anyone is interested.

Besides, I still need feedback to make sure it all works. :P
