If that were the problem, then amavisd wouldn't work at all
with or
without bayes enabled (unfortunately I know that because I

I might have to resort to trying that. I just wish I could
be sure it
would work before I throw away all the work that my users
have done (of
course I won't tell them if I do 

This also begs the question of why I never see a problem
when I run
SpamAssassin directly. It only happens when it is run via
amavisd.

Thanks for the pointer, I'll check it out.

Good idea, I'm just not sure how to accomplish it. During
the hangs,
there is really very little resource consumption on the
system as shown
by things like "top", so I'm pretty sure the
problem is on the database
side, not the scanner side.
