What I missed is the PgSQL instead of SQL module for
bayes_store_module.
I made a few more changes to
http://www.maiamailguard.com/maia/wiki/SpamAssassin3
SQLBayes
>All I've done to tell spamassassin to use postgres are
the _dsn
>settings in local.cf. I get the impression that isn't
sufficient.

The backup had 1247 spam and 3233 ham items. The restore
added about
90 items per hour. I killed it after 16 hours with about
700 of
each restored. The load was about 4. There were over 50
messages
queued. Clearly the system wasn't keeping up with arriving
messages.
I got rid of clearly undeliverable messages in the deferred
queue,
and obvious spam in the active queue, which got the queue
length down
to 20. Maybe it'll catch up, maybe there's no hope without
a bigger
faster computer. This system has basically 5 mail
recipients, but
one of the 5 gets over 300 spam messages per day. And the
maximum
memory is 256 MB, so there's no hope of it running all the
packages
for spam filtering without having about half its virtual
memory on
disk. Recent ms values in the log are 400000, 700000,
1200000! And
lots of SA TIMED OUT, which say they're in PgSQL!
Does that mean Berkeley DB was less resource intensive than
postgresql
is? Well, I have a tower case. I can go check what a power
supply,
motherboard, CPU and memory will cost, and move the disk
from this
slowpoke to something else. Or get an SATA drive and clone
it, if
the motherboard has an SATA controller.
I recall a few years ago finding a site that had a bunch of
cluster
nodes that big sites had sold used or traded in, with dual
Xeons
with about 1 GHz clock for about $200. I thought it was on
something
like zauction.com, but I've looked for that since and all I
found
were domain name campers. Anybody know where to get
cost-effective
multi-CPU systems? I priced out what I thought would be a
nice new
two CPU 64-bit system last June, and the total was about
$1800 each.
Ouch!
