In case you missed it, SpamAssassin released 3.1.8
recently, which
includes a fix to a possible DoS attack involving long URL's
in a
message. This issue affected a few Maia users... (who were
actually
the first reporters to the SA folks, good job!).

I highly recommend updating your SpamAssassin installations
to 3.1.8
ASAP.

I just tried to upgrade via CPAN, but it wants to install
version
3.2.1 . Does this version work with Maia? Is it stable?

I tried to install 3.2 here via CPAN, but it failed a bunch
of tests and
will not install.

Is there any way to force CPAN to install a specific
version, so I could
just install 3.1.8 for now?

Greg:

Looks like my response to this got truncated.  The problem you are having is actually a bug with CPAN for system that run make as root. ; As mentioned you can download the tarball from SA's web site and install directly.  In terms of using 3.2.1 or 3.1.9, I have been using 3.2.0 and 3.2.1 on my backup mail server for several weeks and have recently updated my main mail server using amavisd-maia 1.0.2 ; to 3.2.1.  Most of the early problems with rules compiling have been dealt with and I have not had any problems with the newest edition of SA (on SLES10).  I would opt for the 3.2 branch as you will eventually move there anyway.

Cheers
