WRT to this line of questioning, as I'm in the process of
setting up a
machine that will serve as a gateway to our production
Exchange box, what is
recommended practice for email coming in that goes to things
like Public
Folders and Distribution lists, instead of individual
users?

All new accounts pick up their default values from the
domain
container or the system default domain (.)
container.
There is no tool to set settings on a mass scale right now.
The
philosophy behind Maia was to give the end user the power,
and to
give them ownership of there spam settings. Thus, the
default is
is to do virus scanning, but let everything pass, and let
users log
in a and adjust things if needed. This is also due to the
fact that
when I first implemented a spam solution, we actually got
complaints
from people who were afraid they'd lose real emails, and
resented the
change on their behalf.

In other words, Maia's defaults yield the least surprise to
the end
user; and surprise generates complaints.

That said, you could hack the database default values in the
schema,
or look in maia_db.php for other code that initializes
things.

No, but I'd love to have a solution to do this... the
easiest idea so
far that I've seen is a script to scrape information from
the log
file and feed that to a local dnsrbl program.

We've added some --quiet options to some of the scripts, but
IIRC, we
still have some more to do.

Yes, pending completion of http://w
ww.maiamailguard.org/maia/ticket/431
I think the CLI maiadbtool.pl does this already.

Right now that requires manual linking by the administrator
(Or the
end user, if the secondary login has a password that can be
confirmed)
I have some stubs for ldap and sql that may allow for
auto-linking of
related accounts, but that code will now have to wait until
I am done
with 1.1's new authentication package.

I guess it depends on where your rewriting takes place... if
the
lists happen after Maia sees it, just assign one person to
be in
charge of the list, and link it to their account, or make a
special
login for them... But I've seen other setups where everyone
gets
their own copy of the message to review.... I'm not sure
what that
does to reporting though.
