In cases where amavisd-maia seems to "hang" like
that, it's most often
because there are too many (or not enough) amavisd-children
running.
Adjusting the $max_servers setting in your amavisd.conf file
(and
restarting amavisd-maia) to find the optimal number of
children for your
hardware environment may involve a bit of trial and error.
Make sure,
though, that you match this number against the value you've
set in your
Postfix master.cf (on the "smtp-amavis" line) so
that you have enough
listening children without wasting resources needlessly.
