There's no administrative option available to enable/disable
the display
of those items at the moment, but it's easy enough to remove
them by
editing the template file (themes/*/templates/welcome.tpl).
Once you've
made your edits, be sure to delete the compiled version of
the welcome
page (themes/*/compiled/*welcome.tpl.php); a new version
will be
compiled for you the next time the welcome page is
accessed.
