Can't run send-quarantine-reminders.pl successfully

Getting the last things done before rolling this box out to
production, and
this one is puzzling me. 

I run the following under the vscan account, and get the
error:
     $
/var/amavisd/maia/scripts/send-quarantine-reminders.pl
     2007-04-16 17:17:00 Maia: [send-quarantine-reminders]
FATAL ERROR:
Unable to read reminder.tpl

I check /usr/local/etc/maia.conf, which has the following
line:
     $template_dir =
"/var/amavisd/maia/templates";

I also tried maia.conf with trailing slash, to no avail:
     $template_dir =
"/var/amavisd/maia/templates/";

Locate doesn't find reminder.tpl where maia.conf expects
it:
     $ locate reminder.tpl
    
/usr/local/maia-mailguard/maia-1.0.2/templates/reminder.tpl

Find does find reminder.tpl where maia.conf expects it:
     $ find / -name reminder.tpl
    
/usr/local/maia-mailguard/maia-1.0.2/templates/reminder.tpl
     /var/amavisd/maia/templates/reminder.tpl


Permissions are correct, AFAICT, as I can use the vscan
account all the way
down that directory tree, and the newuser.tpl works fine for
my test
accounts.

     mx1# ll /var/amavisd/maia/templates
     total 8
     -rwxr-x---  1 vscan  vscan  2428 Mar 23 18:19
digest.tpl
     -rwxr-x---  1 vscan  vscan   857 Mar 23 18:19

The template directory needs to be set on the
Admin->System
Configuration page (the "E-mail reminder template
file:" setting under
"Cache Expiry & Quarantine Reminders").  The
$template_dir setting in
maia.conf only applies to the quarantine /digest/ script,
not the
quarantine /reminder/ script (which expects to read the full
path to the
reminder.tpl script from the database).

Also, note that the scripts look for /etc/maia.conf, not
/usr/local/etc/maia.conf.
