After having this happen again, I found that SuSEConfig uses
the contents
of /etc/permissions. Add the path, owner:group and the
perms and
SuSEConfig won't clobber you any more.
OR, in /etc/sysconfig/security:
# SuSEconfig can call chkstat to check permissions and
ownerships for
# files and directories (using /etc/permissions).
# Setting to "set" will correct it,
"warn" produces warnings, if
# something strange is found. Disable this feature with
"no".
#
CHECK_PERMISSIONS="set"

The set-up looks identical to that which I have on a SLES 10
mail
server. Try chmod 711 ./amavis, restart apache2 and
amavis.
Yast will run its SuSEconfig permissions module whenever you
do online
updates and it has a tendency to overwrite what you have
set-up. I have
ended up not using encryption on our set-up because I got
tired of
res-setting permissions everytime SuSEconfig would run.
