A reboot is certainly not needed - remember, this is not
windoze. The settings
take effect immediately, no reboot required.

The most useful information would be a snippet from the mail
log pertaining to
the bounced message. Are you quite certain that maia is
indeed rejecting the
messages, and not your MTA?
