I'm not sure if you have resolved this (couldn't see it in
the list
messages) but this output is showing a wait state of 96.8%.
This would
indicate an I/O issue, ie your server is furiously
reading/writing to
disk while your CPU is idling.

Yeah, I got that one: The bottleneck is the linux software
RAID 1...and
I don't have a way to resolve that. The amount of overhead
it's taking is
staggering. But I think if I can out from under this
multiple thousand
message backlog it'll be sufficient for a 15k/day server.

We use SUSE Linux 10 with software RAID1 on a couple WD 250
gig 7200rpm SATA
300 hds and don't have any problems. I don't know the
specific number of
messages we process a day but it is between 50k - 100k.
Typical delay seems
to be 2 sec.

What kind of hard drives are you using?

I have 4 Gig of ram in the server and I set innodb buffer
pool to 1 gig.
Between MySQL and the 30 amavisd processes the server shows
2.2 gig used of
the 4 gig.

You sure you have enough ram in your server?

Todd
