The ibdata1 file is 5.75GB. I tried to get cute and compact
it (from
http://valery.bgit.net/blog-en/2007/02/22/mysql
-reducing-ibdata1/)
figuring the drive wouldn't have to work so hard, but that
procedure ended
up recreating the replacement db as as much smaller set of
MyISAM files,
not innodb. Being adventurous (and since I had a backup of
the innodb'd
mysql folder), I ran the content-quarantine.pl script on
THAT. After
running like gangbusters for 24 hours (it had to have
processed over 25k
messages) (processing 1-3 messages per second), processing
would slow
down to a crawl (the aformentioned disk I/O slowdown) and
even stopping
restarting the script after letting the server catch up
didn't help. So I
surrendered.

SO, I've reverted back to my InnoDB version. What I'd like
to do is just
drop all of the tables in the database that contain mail, as
David M.
suggested (easy, if I knew which ones they were) and then
re-add them. I
suspect that there's more to it than just rerunning the
original import
script that originally set up the database, right?

Any suggestions on how to do the above? Any SQL gurus have
a query so I
can see just how many messages there are in the quarantine?

I'm slowly learning about MySQL, but I have maybe 30 minutes
a day tops
to devote to this and it's not enough, and I'd really like
to get this
server back online.

Thanks!

How big is your MySQL database?

I'd start by turning down the cache expry time, and running
the
expire script first, to narrow down the file.

We can also drop and re-add just the tables that hold the
mail, but
keep the user settings... if we come to that point.

I think we're at that point. Even after running the expire
script with
the values lowered to 1 for both, the quarantine script
still just
churns
and churns and churns and never finishes. Dunno. :-(
