Thread: External Mail Gateway - SPF

I have a question. My Maia box that I’m running receives mail from our actual MX (a server running qmail.) Our external server performs SPF Checks, and denies any fails. However, SpamAssassin is adding points whenever a domain has an SPF record because it is checking our SMTP Server (The server directly relaying mail to Maia) as opposed to the remote server actually contacting our campus. Is there any setting or step I can take to make Maia aware of our MX server so that it checks the actual sender against SPF as opposed to our MX. I know I can turn the SA SPF rules off, but I would like to keep it on so that some points are added for “Softfails̶1; (our external MX only rejects “fails”.)

Thanks in advance!

I think what you need to do is add your SMTP Server to the
trusted_networks setting in SpamAssassin's local.cf file.
