Hi

ive been using maia for quite some time now and switched to
bayes in
MySQL a while ago. this all seemed to go fine, but since I
fiddled with
it bayes doesnt seem to work anymore, I dont get any bayes
headers and
also when I run spamassassin outside of amavis I dont see
any bayes
checks come up and my test messages dont get any score at
all. the whole
system is running on tripwire, razor and sare rules alone
now.

Relevant output from spamassassin -D --lint (everything I
could find on
bayes)

[10813] dbg: generic: SpamAssassin version 3.2.3

this also shows sufficient tokens to at least do something
with (db was
reset after I switched to MySQL)

the X- headers from a known spam message look like this:

X-Priority: 3
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1437

tests=FM_PORN_A_4=1.09,
SARE_BADGIRLS=0.52
X-Spam-Level: *

there are no bayes checks in here, and not in any other
message either,
so im a bit worried.
I thought rebuilding the database would only take a short
while but
still only a few percent of the mail is being caught, and
only because
everything besides bayes is doing a good job.

today I tried to turn the old DB back on, ran some tests but
came out
with thesame result.
I have no idea how to get Bayes working again, went trough a
lot of
docs, including the one I used to set this up in the first
place, but
couldnt fix it with any one of them.

Michiel van den Berg

I have been running it for a bit now on the debug-sa mode. It generates a lot of output, while reading trough it I can find that on startup, it connects to the SQL for both bayes and the AWL but in the mail checks I can not find anything related to bayes checks. It does auto learn and when it runs trough that I do see sql output about duplicate keys am assuming this is normal.

Are there any specific lines I should look for? As I don’t have a working situation at the moment I have no clue what lines ‘should’ be there.

With me only these:

[10813] dbg: bayes: using username: amavis
[10813] dbg: bayes: database connection established
[10813] dbg: bayes: found bayes db version 3
[10813] dbg: bayes: Using userid: 10

Rules show up. Nothing else on bayes L if you want I can send a full log. But im wondering how I can debug ‘just’ bayes.

These are the bayes Lines that pop up on my system when recieving mail (in debug-sa mode).  I think we should look for something like that.

Hi,

Can you run amavisd with the debug-sa flag to see what happends when a mail is processed ?

Onderwerp: [Maia-users] Spamassassin -> Bayes not working?

Hi

ive been using maia for quite some time now and switched to bayes in
MySQL a while ago. this all seemed to go fine, but since I fiddled with
it bayes doesnt seem to work anymore, I dont get any bayes headers and
also when I run spamassassin outside of amavis I dont see any bayes
checks come up and my test messages dont get any score at all. the whole

system is running on tripwire, razor and sare rules alone now.

Relevant output from spamassassin -D --lint (everything I could find on
bayes)

[10813] dbg: generic: SpamAssassin version 3.2.3
[10813] dbg: config: read file
/var/lib/spamassassin/3.002003/70_sare_bayes_poison_nxm_cf_sare_sa-updat
e_dostech_net.cf
[10813] dbg: plugin: loading Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Bayes from INC

[10813] dbg: bayes: using username: amavis
[10813] dbg: bayes: database connection established
[10813] dbg: bayes: found bayes db version 3
[10813] dbg: bayes: Using userid: 10

it seems spamassassin is connecting to the db fine

sa-learn --dump magic
0.000       ;   0   ;       3          0  non-token data: bayes db version
0.000   ;       0      32207  ;        0  non-token data: nspam

atime delta
0.000       ;   0   ;    2744       ;   0  non-token data: last expire
reduction count

this also shows sufficient tokens to at least do something with (db was
reset after I switched to MySQL)

the X- headers from a known spam message look like this:

X-Priority: 3
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1437
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1441
X-Virus-Scanned: Maia Mailguard 1.0.2a
X-Spam-Status: No, hits=1.61 tagged_above=1 required=5
tests=FM_PORN_A_4=1.09,
SARE_BADGIRLS=0.52
X-Spam-Level: *

there are no bayes checks in here, and not in any other message either,
so im a bit worried.
I thought rebuilding the database would only take a short while but
still only a few percent of the mail is being caught, and only because
everything besides bayes is doing a good job.

today I tried to turn the old DB back on, ran some tests but came out
with thesame result.
I have no idea how to get Bayes working again, went trough a lot of
docs, including the one I used to set this up in the first place, but
couldnt fix it with any one of them.

Rgds,

Michiel van den Berg

It sure looks like you don't actually have bayes turned on
in
SpamAssassin (local.cf file). Here's what mine looks like:

use_bayes 1
use_bayes_rules 1

bayes_auto_expire 0

bayes_store_module
Mail::SpamAssassin::BayesStore::MySQL
bayes_sql_dsn
DBI:mysql:maia:ndirdns.ucar.edu:3306
bayes_sql_username amavis
bayes_sql_password ******* (actual DB
password goes here)
bayes_sql_override_username amavis

Use_bayes is 1 by default, use_bayes_rules also. In my old
config (older
version of spamassassin) I had set both to 1 manually also,
but upon
reinstalling spamassassin Friday and getting the new config,
both were
commented out in the config, with the line above what the
default
setting was.
