Strange stops

Hello,

One of our installations has been running for like 3 years
(pretty old 
release), but now suddenly it just stops. There is no error
logs, 
amavisd is running but just stops responding (I can usually
connect to 
port 10024, but don't get any response). Sometimes it
happens once a 
day, other times it can go a week between the stops.

Anyone seen this kind of behavior before ?

I've had two systems do this, for unrelated reasons.  
First, my own  
system had an old clamav that stopped working.  I installed
the  
latest clamav and it started working.  This one was obvious
by the  
high cpu usage of clamscan.

The other one I just ran into was and older install that had
SA 3.1.7  
and some SARE rules... turns out the URI0 SARE ruleset was
chewing up  
CPU and not returning. I disabled the URI0 set and it
started to work  
again.

Thanks for the advices, I'll check them out. I know we're
using some 
SARE rules.
