Obviously, it is not able to write to /root/tmp (which I
think is a good thing.)... But where did it get the idea
that /root/tmp was the place to be?
I am guessing I want to change it from /root/tmp to /tmp,
but, again, I don't know where to do that specifically.
Thanks for your anticipated assistance.

One thought - are you running this as root? It should be run
as the
amavis or vscan user...

Hello, Tom.
I think what you are looking for is this line in your
amavisd.conf file:
$TEMPBASE = "$MYHOME/tmp"; # working directory,
needs to be created
manually
Of course, yours is most likely set to
"/root/tmp" for some reason. So,
just change that to where ever you would like it to write
to.

It runs as amavis from its crontab entry.

I think I just figured it out...
I am logging into the machine as root, and then su'ing to
amavis.
But, for reasons I suspect I should know but cannot
remember, it retains /root/tmp as $TMPDIR.
So, it looks like the usage of $ENV{'TMPDIR'} sets things
to /root/tmp.
Which leads me to a follow-up question. What is the
suggested method to insure that when run from the crontab
entry, the script is completing without errors? Can I
check any files or tables for the results of what that
script does?
Thanks.

check what your $MYHOME variable is in amavisd.conf, this
should have
nothing to do with your system $ENV{'TMPDIR'} settings.
Also, are you using
a) su amavis
or
b) su - amavis
to impersonate the amavis user?
the first one keeps your old user's environment (like $HOME
etc) and
should be avoiding if you rely on such variables.

Thanks for the comment. I was using the first one, so,
I'll use the second and see what transpires
The only reason I mentioned $ENV{'TMPDIR'} is that I saw
that variable in the Util.pm file which I believe is being
called by process-quarantine.pl or is subordinates.
Thanks for the info.
