Hi friends,

Just curious is it possible to build two maia's boxes
working in the cluster
mode?

Eugene

What if two maia boxes with identical setup are put online
and MX records
pointing to them will have the same value?

Yes. Postfix (or other MTA) can support HA. SQL servers do
the same
thing.

Amavisd-new and whatever you use for anti-virus/anti-spam
would be
tricky
on making it very HA.

The problem with this is that you can only have one
database.

My setup is to use two boxes in high availability
(www.linux-ha.org) to
handle the database and a single shared HA IP address for
incoming
connections. DRBD is used to replicate the partition
containing the
database; this allows the second server to quickly become
the master
MySQL server and avoids the complexity of getting two-way
MySQL
replication set up properly. The down side to this approach
is that one
box sits largely idle until there is a failover. These HA
boxes also run
Linux Virtual Server (www.linuxvirtualserver.org) to farm
out incoming
SMTP connections to multiple scanning nodes. Works well for
us;
additional scanning nodes can easily be added as needed, or
individual
nodes can be removed from the cluster for updates or repairs
without
causing a service outage.

We have three servers with the
postfix-2.4.6+amavisd-maia-1.0.2a
+SA-3.2.3 with one of those three housing the pgsql db and
maia GUI. All
works very well after proper pgsql tuning and 6GB of RAM.
One of the
servers is on a remote network from the db. I'll be looking
into Slony
to replicate the pgsql db, but for now, the db is dumped to
the remote
server periodically. If and when the db server goes down, we
currently
would just load the db on the remote server and point any
MTA's to that
db host. Since all servers are gateways, all transparent to
the users.
The same priority of MX records allows any up and running
server to
gather mail until it contacts a db host.
