Can maia use the relay-country spamassassin plugin? As I have read about this plugin, it is supposed to do nothing more than modify the messages headers on your spam to add a header for the relay country. This can then be used for more effective training of the bayesdb, so that messages from “spammy” countries would normally get a higher spam score from bayes.

However, other things that I have read say that amavisd-new doesn217;t let spamassassin put its own headers on your email. Instead, amavisd-new adds the spam, x-virus scanned & other mail-scanner-related headers.

This could mean that using the relay-country plugin with maia mailguard is pointless because it doesn̵7;t ever let spamassassin write these headers to the messages anyway.

I’ve enabled it for a while, but am not sure whether it’s really being used. When I look at a raw message in the maia_mail table using phpMyAdmin, or using the “View Raw” button within the Maia web interface, I don’t see these headers.

Does anybody else know whether this is actually helpful with Maia? If not, then I will obviously turn it off, in order to not waste system resources.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Doug:

We have used this plug-in in our system for the past year with MM and it works fine.  You need to add a cf file to your /etc/mail/spamassassin (or wherever is appropriate for your OS) directory with the scores you want to assign.  These will appear in the spam scoring just as any other rule.

You’re talking about scoring the messages based upon the relay country, as opposed to just writing the relay country to the header??

No, I wouldn't want to modify the subject.

All that I was wanting was to have maia/spamassassin write
the country code in the message headers, so that when
message tokens are added to the bayes database, the relay
countries are included there.

As far as giving different scores for different relay
countries, I don't think we're very interested in that at
this point.

Thanks for your help.

In effect, yes sir. If you just want the header included in
your
overall set of spam scores for a particular message you
could always set
the score to a low value. In re-reading your post perhaps I
am
confusing myself as to what you wish to do. The
aforementioned approach
will add the RELAY_COUNTRY score into your message header
information.
Are you trying to add this to the message subject line in
analogy to the
way in which *****SPAM***** markers added by amavisd-new?
