| Question. Existing userbase to new
Maia install. |
  United States |

This is probably a dumb question, and yes, I read the FAQ's
Probably
missed it there too.
I have an existing user base, I want to add Maia. Using
pop3 to
authenticate them in Maia, what happens to mail destined for
users that
don't yet have a Maia account?
Since getting them all to sign in will be, at the very
least, difficult, do
they need to exist in Maia's DB for maia's to
tag/kill/filter/scan etc the
mails addressed to them?
And no, creating an open system where the users are created
automatically
really doesn't appeal to me either.

Without enabling the "create users automatically"
option in Maia, there
really isn't a way to add your users without doing it
manually.
Also, if Maia doesn't yet have your users, it will use the
default domain
(. domain) settings to scan mail. However, nothing will
be available to
users when they do decide to log in (IE: The won't be able
to retrieve
SPAM/VIRUS labeled email).
Hope this helps!

You're giving up a great convenience then. BTW I'm not sure
what you
mean by "open system" in this context, since maia
accounts are created
*only* for valid email users on your system.
You *do* immediately reject mail to invalid users, right?

Hi Dave,
If a mail user does not have an account set up on Maia,
then all of that
user's mail flows through the default account ( ) and can
be managed by an
administrator... This make's it nice for your situation in
that you can
initially have _all_ the mail flowing through the default
account and
then, once you see which users(s) whould have the largest
impact on the
administrative load, you can create an account for that user
and train
them in managing their own mail in Maia.... Not that it
requires a great
deal of management once the baysian filter has trained
itself.... but this
integration process can be done on a one-user-at-a-time
basis if you want
to....
Or you can set maia to automatically create user accounts
based on
incoming mail.... and to advise the user or a create account
how to access
it.....

Duh, yep I do. Wasn't thinking about it that way. The
"create accounts as
needed" just scared me to death. A spammers dream I
was thinking.
Postfix refuses invalid accounts RIGHT AWAY, as it should.

Yep, but it begs the next question, where does it go?
SPAM/VIRUS stuff that the default settings kill/tag, get
passed to the user
tagged, or do they go into the magic of /dev/null?
