I recently tried to run Maia on my mail server (Which
currently runs
Amavisd-new) and I continue recieving this error:
451 4.5.0 Error in processing, id=32250-09-2, mime_decode-1
FAILED: Unix
utility file(1) not available, but is needed at
(eval 42) line 110. (in reply to end of DATA command)
I've browsed this list and it seems others have had this
same issue before
but upgrading or downgrading Net::Server seemed to fix it
for them. For
me, this is not the case. I have tried Net-Server-0.93,
*-0.90, and *-0.89
and nothing seemed to work. I have also tried the Maia SVN
version (Latest
from what I've read) and that still had no effect.
I'm running this mail server on:
Fedora Core 3
Postfix 2.2.9
Maia Mailguard SVN (As of 3 days ago)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Do you have the file utility installed? Does the
configtest.pl script
find the file utility?

Yeah. The file utility is installed and the configtest.pl
script finds it
just fine.

Then there are just a few more things I can think of to
check:
(1) When you start amavisd-maia, in your amavisd logs you
should see an
attempt to find the file utility, something like this:
/usr/local/sbin/amavisd[16768]: Found $file at /usr/bin/file
(2) Are the permissions on the file utility such that the
amavis/maia
user can read and execute it?
(3) Are you certain that the amavisd you're running is
actually
amavisd-maia, and not amavisd-new? The logs at startup
should tell you
what's actually being run, e.g.:
/usr/local/sbin/amavisd[16767]: starting.
/usr/local/sbin/amavisd at
davinci.renaissoft.com amavisd-new-2.2.1 (20041222) + Maia
Mailguard
1.0.1, Unicode aware, LANG=en_US.UTF-8
If you discover that you're running the wrong amavisd, it
may be worth
checking your init scripts to make sure they haven't got
the wrong
amavisd hard-coded into them.
