maia 1.0.1 Use of uninitialized value in split error

I am upgrading from 1.0.0-rc5-2 to 1.0.1 and am getting the
following  
error when I start the new version of amavisd-maia. I
downloaded the  
1.0.1 package today from the website.  Do I need perl 5.8.3
? The  
website says min is 5.6 but the configtest says 5.8.3

That particular web page is out of date; I'll amend it
shortly.  Perl
5.8.0 is technically the minimum required version, but there
are
numerous bugs in 5.8.[012], which is why configtest
recommends 5.8.3 or
later.
