That part is easy enough, but does "make check"
now pass for you?  My
build is failing to find the version functions...

No, my build is now failing to find the version functions
when trying to 
import the generated python module.

If you have any idea how to fix this, that'd be great: I
took a quick 
look at the way the version.h files work, but I haven't
figured out how 
it's meant to all fit together yet.
