URGENT: Upgrade from 1.7.2 to 1.8.2 not going well...

I backed up all the files, and backed up the database.

I uploaded everything. I went to /config/

and I filled in the info.

When I clicked on the link to my wiki, there was no data. So
it was  
pulling nothing from my database.

I logged in to phpMyAdmin and saw the database with the
correct name  
there, only instead of (31) next to it, it had (62).

So it appears that my database got overwritten. What did I
do wrong?  
Need help.

1) Did you remember to move wikidir/config/index.php up one
dir to 
wikidir/LocalSettings.php ?

$ mv wikidir/config/LocalSettings.php
wikidir/LocalSettings.php

2) I don't know what doubled your db size but maybe it could
be that you 
have setup your new install with a table prefix that is not
identical 
to your old wiki install. You haven't explained above about
this.

Is above MediaWiki install at Dreamhost.com? Are you using
their 
Goodies -> One-Click Install to upgrade?

CORRECTION:

Did you remember to move wikidir/config/LocalSettings.php up
one dir?

(I starting calling it index.php in the first line above but
I *think* 
that is wrong and what you move is LocalSettings.php -- The
installer 
actually tells you to do it if you look closely, I think
after the line 
that says SUCCESS in green or something)
