Free and ad-free mediawiki hosting anywhere?

Does anyone offer free *and ad-free* mediawiki hosting? My
project is
fairly fannish, so it wouldn't qualify for sf.net free
hosting (for
example).

I'm currently using awardspace.com, which is free and
ad-free, but
only runs PHP 4.4.1.

If I'm forced to stick with awardspace.com, what's the last
version of
mediawiki that will still work with PHP 4 (specifically PHP
4.4.1)?

I do realize other wikis work with PHP 4, but I'm hooked on
mediawiki

I'd be surprised to see such, unless it's a loss-leader for
pay
services. (Sourceforge itself is covered with ads too and
sells
commercial support options.)

Generally speaking, hosting providers expect their customers
to pay for
their costs _somehow_.

1.6.8.

Hi Kelly Jones,

My server currently has quite a bit of free space and
bandwidth. If
you want, I could give you an account. Email me off list
and let me
know what exactly what you would require.

My server has 2xDual Core Xeon (3.0GHz) and 2GB RAM, plus a
Squid
server... it should be for any medium or small sized Wiki.

I would also be happy to help you with any technical issue
you would have.

Let me know what you want,
Kasimir

I haven't looked into this, but I think Wikia does or will
provide free
WM service.
Jimmy Wales announced something like this a couple of weeks
ago:

Oh wait, seems like that's not completely ad-free after all.
Either way, it might still be worth sharing, so here we
go...

HTH.

hmmm ... really free?
I think, that people, who want to host an own wiki, could
pay a few! cents for
webspace.
You can get a webhosting for 20 Cent (0,20 Euro) per month,
including 100
MB+sql+php.

I found examples at webhostlist.de ... i guess, there are
comparable sites in
english.

Regards,
Jan

Supposedly you get 100% of the revenue for the ads, though,
so maybe
there is some way to turn them off. If, that is, it ever
happens. So
far the project has done nothing but collect people's
personal
information. It is, so far, vaporware. (Maybe one of the
investors
realized that borrowing money from venture capitalists isn't
a
business model.)

That article is about OpenServing, not MediaWiki hosting.

> It is, so far, vaporware.

No, it isn't. You can see an example at http://entertai
nment.openserving.com/

It's a soft launch, so we're not listing which URLs are
available yet.
