Wikipedia template logic

We've been trying to download wikipedia pages and their
template
dependencies and noticed that several pages use logic
templates such as
Template:qif to help display those pages. Mediawiki 1.5.4
won't render the
logic in these templates, instead the template gets inserted
verbatim. Is
there a setting in the application that turns this on that
we have just
overlooked? How does Wikipedia handle the if else test
clauses?

Most of the (messed up) logic templates on Wikipedia and
related
projects use template syntax not available in the 1.5 branch
of
MediaWiki.

You'll either have to upgrade to CVS HEAD (which is not
supported) or
use another method.
